The ratio of students to teachers in Alma del Mar Charter School District rose by 1.6% in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

There were 944 students being taught by 73 teachers in Alma del Mar Charter School District, which covers schools within Bristol County and has a main office in New Bedford. That's an average of 12.9 students per teacher in the district during the 2021-22 school year.

In the previous year, Alma del Mar Charter School District had 797 students and 63 teachers on staff.

However, the state is facing a teacher shortage, just like the rest of the U.S. NewsNation reported that the state was offering emergency teaching licenses to educators who only had bachelor’s degrees, in an effort to get more teachers into schools.

Despite the shortage, under-representation of ethnicities among teachers was found to be a concern. The Rennie Center reported that only nine percent of teachers are people of color.
