Keene State's Hunter Repeats as USBWA National Player of the Week

Keene State's Hunter Repeats as USBWA National Player of the Week

The early season awards keep pouring in for Keene State College senior forward Jeff Hunter.   The Owls' co-captain was named the National Player of the Week by the United States Basketball Writers Association for the second week in a row.

Hunter (Hudson, Mass.) continued his dominating play in a pair of games last week.  Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, he poured in 20 points with 11 rebounds, seven blocks, four steals, and three assists in a 113-75 win over Springfield College on November 22.   Against the Pride, he shot 8-for-10 from the floor and 4-of-6 from the line.    He then added 27 points on 13-of-14 shooting with 10 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in a 102-90 win over MIT on November 26.    He did not commit a foul in either contest and was named the Little East Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week.

For the year, Hunter is averaging 22 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, and two steals per game while shooting 75% from the floor.  He has double-doubles in his last four games and is 32 points away from reaching 1,000 for his career.   Hunter ranks third nationally in blocked shots (22), and in field goals made (57), fourth in field goal percentage (75%), fifth in double-doubles (four), rebounds (73), offensive rebounds per game (5 per), and sixth in blocks per game (3.6 per).

There are three chances to see the nationally ranked Owls in action before the end of the semester; in addition to Tuesday's 7 p.m. game against Albertus Magnus, the Owls host Plymouth State on December 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Rhode Island College on December 10 at 3 p.m.  Tickets for each game can be purchased here: https://keene.universitytickets.com/
