Brendan Wilder broke the Northeast Conference (NEC) record in the 1500 meters as the Stonehill men’s track and field team finished third at the NEC Outdoor Championship Meet on May 3.
The achievement is significant for both Wilder and the Stonehill team, highlighting a strong performance at a major collegiate competition.
Wilder, a junior, won gold in the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:48.84, surpassing CCSU’s Jake Ireland’s previous NEC record by .15 seconds. Junior Nicholas Davies earned silver in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:23.26. The Skyhawks’ relay teams also performed well; Patrick Morin, Miles Burr, Jon Dougherty, and Brody McGrail claimed silver in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 42.48 seconds. Cam Begley, Owen Partridge, Matt Anderson, and Jon Dougherty took silver in the 4×400-meter relay clocking in at 3:21.62.
Other notable results included Ean Hynes finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.67 seconds and Dylan Brilliant earning bronze in the 10K meters with a time of 31:12.62. James Scott secured bronze in javelin with a throw of 53.27 meters while Colin Keane, Declan Smith, Matthew Malora, and Benjamin Tavares placed third as part of the Skyhawks’ bronze-winning effort in the men’s four-by-800 meter relay.
The team’s overall performance demonstrated depth across multiple events as several athletes achieved top-five finishes including Joseph Chesney who placed fifth in discus (45.71m) and fourth in shot put (16.04m), Jon Dougherty who was fourth in both relays as well as individually placing fourth with his time of 48.66 seconds for the open quarter mile race.
Stonehill will compete next on May 8 at W.B Mason Stadium during New England Outdoor Championships.
