Powered by a 10-run third inning, Mitchell College posted a non-conference win over UMass Dartmouth in non-conference action on Wednesday. The Mariners moved to 14-3 overall in the 19-3 victory, while the Corsairs fell to 11-6.
After a scoreless first inning, Mitchell's Nicholas Bracale opened the scoring with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. The Mariners went on to score two more runs in the second before breaking open in the game in the third inning as 10 runs crossed the plate.
Senior catcher Matt Falk drove in a team-high five runs for the Mariners, while four others each had two RBI. Freshman Alex Sheehan picked up his second win of the season, tossing five innings of one run ball for the Mariners as he struck out one and surrendered no walks on one run and four hits.
The Corsairs saw Jared Neikam go 3-for-3 at the plate, with an RBI and a run scored. On the mound, Braedon Jones received the loss allowing seven runs (six earned) on four hits over 2.0 innings.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Sunday when they open Little East Conference play with a doubleheader at Southern Maine. The contests, which were moved due to inclement weather on Saturday, will begin at 12pm in Gorham, Maine.
