Wheaton College (Mass.) baseball player Zach Clesas (Johnston, R.I.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 20-26, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.

Clesas joins senior third baseman Nick Croteau (Cumberland, R.I.) as being recognized by the conference this week and becomes the third Lyon to earn a weekly NEWMAC honor from the league this season after senior shortstop Cavan Brady (Sheffield, Mass.) was chosen last week.

In his only appearance of the week, the senior hurled six and a third innings of two-hit shutout ball and issued just two walks. The right-hander struck out a batter and held opposing batters to a stingy .100 (2-20) batting mark, en-route to a victory in a 13-1 decision at Salem State University on March 24.

For the season, the Johnston High School product has been among the best pitchers in the NEWMAC, ranking among the top 15 in six different categories. The Tri-Captain is tied for first with four games started and tied for third among league leaders in victories with a 2-1 mark. He has logged 22 ⅓ innings pitched to stand fourth within the conference and is 13th in opponent batting average at .253 (22-87), 14th in earned run average (4.03) and 15th in strikeouts with 15. Clesas has issued just six walks on the season and has surrendered two or fewer base on balls in three outings, while allowing six or fewer hits in three appearances as well.

The Business and Management major had seen all of his action out of the bullpen prior to becoming a starter this season. He has appeared in 63 career games and owns a 7-2 record to go with four saves and a 3.75 ERA in 86 ⅓ innings of work. Clesas has allowed fewer hits than innings pitched in his tenure in Norton and fanned 47 batters against just 26 walks.

The Lyons have won 10 straight games and are currently 12-2 on the season. In addition, Wheaton has received votes in the most recent D3baseball.com national poll and will host No. 2 Eastern Connecticut State University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Sidell Stadium in Norton, Mass.
