It was a split decision Friday afternoon as the UMass Dartmouth softball team went 1-1 in doubleheader action at Wheaton College. The Corsairs (11-5) won game two by a 3-0 margin, while the Lyons (8-4) posted a 7-0 win in the opener.

UMD struck again in the top of the fifth as junior hurler Kaitlyn Shirshac singled to right, advancing to second as rookie outfielder Sydney Menz grounded out. With two outs on the board, grad student and shortstop Leah Major singled to center to bring in the run.

Shirshac pitched a gem for the Corsairs, improving to 6-0 after allowing just two hits and no runs over 7.0 innings. She struck out five batters, allowing just walk.

The opening game saw the homestanding Lyons score four runs in the bottom of the fourth, adding three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin. Agan led the way for Wheaton, going 4-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in.

In the circle, grad student Jill Richards shouldered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings. She struck out five and walked two. Sophomore Rahne Turley came on in relief, while classmate Ella Beaulieu allowed three runs (2 earned) on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
