The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's tennis team was defeated by visiting Connecticut College, 7-2, this afternoon on the Clark Tennis Courts on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons fall to 1-7, while the Camels improve to 5-2 on the season.

Connecticut College swept all three doubles matches, before taking four of six singles to seal the win.

First year Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Zoe West (New York, N.Y.) produced singles wins for Wheaton. Greenlee won at number two singles over first year Sana Bhat (New Delhi, India) after battling to a 7-6 (4) first set win, before settling in with a 6-3 second set victory for the match. West cruised to a 6-1 first frame win over sophomore Anna Slopak (Taftville, Conn.) at number five singles, prior to pulling out a 7-5 decision in the second set.

Sophomore Caitlin Cass (Newcastle, Maine) won at both number one singles and doubles for the Camels, while junior Courtney Banks (North Haven, Conn.) was a winner at second doubles and third singles and first year Lily Kerachsky (East Greenwich, R.I.) came out on top with Banks at number two doubles and at fourth singles.

Cass combined with Slopak at number one doubles for an 8-5 decision over the Wheaton first year tandem of Greenlee and Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas). Cass outlasted Lyon senior Mareike Mueller (Amesbury, Mass.), 7-5 in the opening set at number one before a 6-0 effort in the second frame.

Banks and Kerachsky teamed for an 8-0 shutout at number two doubles over Mueller and Wheaton sophomore Izzy Kruse (Woodstock, Ga.). Banks downed Ortiz at third singles, 7-5, 6-2 and Kerachsky was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at fourth singles over Kruse for Connecticut College.

Bhat combined with sophomore Kinley Yangden (Thimpu, Bhutan) to register an 8-1 triumph at third doubles over the Lyon duo of West and junior Katalyn Foster (Weston, Conn.).

Junior Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) scored the other singles win for the Camels with a 6-2, 6-1 showing at sixth singles over Wheaton first year Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass.).

Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, March 25 when it hosts Mount Holyoke College at 12:00 p.m. to open the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference slate, while Connecticut College travels to South Hadley, Mass. on March 22 to also play Mount Holyoke at 2:00 p.m.
