Eastern Connecticut Baseball Slips to Fifth in D3baseball.com/NCBWA Poll, UMass Dartmouth Receiving Votes | https://littleeast.com/
The Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team dropped two spots in the latest version of the D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Poll. The Warriors sit in fifth-place this week, having garnered 512 points and two first-place votes.
Eastern entered this week’s competition with a 5-0 record. It opened last week’s competition with a 9-6 win at SUNY Purchase before pulling out a 3-2 extra-inning victory at then No. 16 Johns Hopkins Sunday. Jason Claiborn drove in Ray Leonzi from second with the game winning run in the top of the 10th to complete the come-from-behind win.
The Warriors opened this week’s slate with a 7-4 setback at Mary Washington yesterday (Monday). Eastern will next take on Mount Aloysius in a doubleheader Thursday before facing Salem State and Worcester State Friday and Saturday.
UMass Dartmouth is now among the teams receiving votes in the poll following a 9-0 start to the season through Sunday’s action. The Corsairs opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of WPI (9-8 and 12-0) before taking down Fitchburg State (14-1), Penn State Altoona (12-11), Concordia (7-4 and 7-1), Clarkson (7-5) and Wentworth (5-4 and 7-5).
UMass Dartmouth opened this week’s play with a 12-1 loss to Tufts, and are next schedule to take on Bridgewater State in a doubleheader Saturday.
