Senior shortstop posts outstanding effort for Corsairs in 7-0 week

The Little East Conference has announced its weekly awards in baseball and UMass Dartmouth student-athlete DJ Perron was recognized. The senior was named the conference's Player of the Week after an outstanding week for the Corsairs.

Perron helped the Corsairs to a perfect 7-0 record last week, batting a phenomenal .593 at the plate with a 1.111% slugging percentage and a .625 on-base% as a starter in all seven contests. He recorded 16 hits in 27 at-bats, adding 10 runs scored and a team-high 17 RBI. Perron also notched two doubles with a team-best four home runs on the week.

Highlighting his week was UMD's 12-11 win over Penn State Altoona, where he went 6-for-6 at the plate, recording the game-winning walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. In that game, he posted seven RBI's, a double, a homerun and three runs scored.

Through nine games thus far, Perron leads the team with a .559 batting average. In addition to a 1.176 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base% - both team-high's, he has recorded 19 hits in 34 at-bats. Perron has three doubles and a squad-high six home runs, while posting 14 runs scored and 22 runs batted in – also team-best numbers.

Perron, who has been walked five times, has been struck out just three times, while going 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts. Among the Little East's best, Perron leads the conference in slugging percentage, on base + slugging percentage (OPS), hits, runs batted in and home runs. He is second overall in batting average and runs scored.

Nationally, Perron ranks seventh among Division III's best in home runs per game (0.67), ninth in runs batted in per game (2.44), 11th in home runs, 14th in RBI's and slugging percentage, 26th in batting average and 32nd in total bases (40).

UMass Dartmouth is currently 9-0 on the season and is right back in action on Monday afternoon in a 3pm game at Tufts in Medford, Mass.
