The Little East Conference has announced its weekly award winners in softball and UMass Dartmouth graduate student - Jill Richards - was recognized for her efforts on the mound last week. Richards was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week in the second week of Little East Softball action. 

Richards was outstanding for the Corsairs throughout their run in THE Spring Games in Florida last week. Richards took the mound in three different games, pitching 16.2 innings over the week, including two complete games against Otterbein (3/7) and Penn State – Behrend (3/10). She finished the week with a record of 2-0 and is now 2-1 for the season. 
 
In her 17 innings on the mound, Richards faced 69 batters, allowed 11 total hits, four total runs, and struck out 23. In her two wins against Penn St. – Behrend and Otterbein, she allowed just five total hits, including a one-hitter against Behrend, and shut out both teams. Richards struck out 10 batters from Otterbein and nine batters from Penn St. – Behrend.
 
In addition to her efforts on the mound, Richards contributed from the plate for the Corsairs as well. For the week Richards averaged .233 with seven hits, five RBI's, and five runs scored. She also went deep against Marietta College (3/6) and leads the team with two doubles. 
 
Richards has been a large contributor to UMass Dartmouth's 7-3 start to the season. The Corsairs return to action on Thursday, when they make their season-home-debut in a double-header with Johnson & Wales. The two games are scheduled for 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
