SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM 3/14-3/15

WHAT- A significant winter storm will impact our area with heavy rain, very high winds, and possibly ending as snow.

WHEN- Beginning during the overnight tonight and lasting into Wednesday morning.

IMPACTS- A long duration of heavy rain and winds between 60-65mph, with possible gusts at 70+, may knock down trees and limbs causing power outages.  The highest winds are expected Tuesday afternoon and overnight into Wednesday.

Anyone who loses power and heat and feels that they need to leave their home should contact the Eastham Police Department at 508-255-0551.  Arrangements will be for a warming center and/or sheltering based on need as the storm develops.  The activation of a warming center or shelter would be announced via CodeRed, social media, and the Town of Eastham website.

If you encounter any fallen trees, please contact the police department via 911, if an emergency, or by calling the business line at 508-255-0551.  Please do not go near downed trees or power lines. Lines may be charged.  Public safety personnel will respond to all calls for downed wires and trees and will notify the appropriate utility companies.

If you lose power, please contact Eversource directly at 1-800-592-2000 to report the outage.  Eversource has a robust tracking system that provides information to public safety departments regarding the number of outages and estimated times of restoration.  This system will also call back residents with restoration estimates.

Much still remains uncertain with this storm.  Actual wind gust values are still uncertain as is the amount of snow that we receive, if any.  The Eastham Emergency Management Team, consisting of police, fire, and DPW, met today and have made preparations for whatever this storm brings our way.  We have also been in contact with our partners at Barnstable County and Eversource.  We will be continuing to monitor the situation as the storm develops and will bring you more information as things evolve.
