Three-Match Winning Streak Comes to End at Clark

The three-match winning streak for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's tennis team came to an end at Clark, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon in Worcester.

With the match tied 4-4, Cougar (1-0) senior Nardin Sayoufi edged the Corsairs'  (5-2) junior Ailey Riddick 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5) in two tiebreakers at No. 5 singles to clinch the win.

"Ailey was coming back into the lineup and she fought really hard," said Head Coach Doug Chapman. "It was a see-saw match that could have gone either way."

Earlier in the match, Riddick and junior IsaBella Winter remained undefeated at No. 1 doubles. They improved to 6-0 together with a 8-3 victory. Senior Alanna O'Connell remained unbeaten (7-0) at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 7-5 win over senior Maeve McEnroe on O'Connell's 22nd birthday. Freshman Bailey Clarke also returned to the lineup with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

Winter tied the team score at 4-4 with a high-quality 7-5, 6-4 win over Clark's Hanna Russo at No. 1 singles. Winter is now 6-1 in singles and 7-0 in doubles on the season.
