The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team led in shots and corner kicks, but it was Salve Regina winning its third-straight game, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon at Brother Michael Reynolds Field.
The Corsairs (3-3) outshot the Seahawks (4-4), 16-12 and 10-8 on goal. UMass Dartmouth also led with nine corner kicks compared to two for Salve Regina. Scoring the lone goal for the home team was freshman Taylor Barnaby of a crossing assist from classmate Hannah Daniewicz.
UMass Dartmouth's senior goalkeeper Kat Hubbard finished with seven saves, while Salve Regina's freshman stopper Reagan Moffatt recorded the shutout with 10 saves.
The Corsairs had four shots on goal in the early going from freshmen Jenny Kinnear, Ashlyn Aguiar and Veronica Bock along with senior Maddie Beaulieu, but all were saved by the Salve keeper. The Seahawks scored the game-winning goal in the 25th minute when Daniewicz sent a cross to Barnaby, who tucked it past the far post for the 1-0 advantage.
UMass Dartmouth dominated the second half, shooting nine shots with five on goal compared to one shot on goal for the Seahawks. The Corsairs had opportunities from freshman Kaitlyn Duarte, sophomore Kaitlyn Nguyen and freshmen Lauren Couitt, Jordana Golove and Veronica Bock, but could not capitalize as Salve Regina hung on for the win.
UMass Dartmouth will travel to Connecticut College next for a 4 p.m. contest on Friday.
