Corsairs Ready for Fresh Start in 2022

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth women's soccer team is beginning with a clean slate under first-year Head Coach Bobby Desilets. The team returns 15 players with two graduate students, four seniors, two juniors and eight sophomores. There are nine incoming freshmen on the roster and one sophomore transfer.

Desilets arrives from Wheaton College after a successful six-year run with the Lyons where he compiled a 42-23-10 record, while earning a playoff berth in the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament in every season. 2022 marks the 35th season for the program. Last year, UMass Dartmouth finished 1-14-1 with a 5-0 victory over Salem State and a 2-2 draw against Dean College.

Grad student Kait Bernier, who tied for the team lead with three goals and an assist for seven points in 2021, returns to the pitch to lead the offense. On defense, the Corsairs bring back senior Maddie Beaulieu, junior Anna Balkus and sophomore Caroline McAuliffe. Senior Kat Hubbard will be in goal for the Corsairs. Hubbard posted a shutout against Salem State last season. UMass Dartmouth adds nine freshmen to the team and sophomore Maya Hayes, a transfer from Division II American International College, who is expected to make a difference this season.

The Corsairs begin their season on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Salem State at Cressy Field. From there, UMass Dartmouth is at Lasell (Sept. 7) and Curry (Sept. 10), and back home to face Wentworth (Sept. 13), before the Little East Conference (LEC) opener at Cressy Field against Plymouth State (Sept. 16). UMass Dartmouth continues its season with tough non-conference competition mixed with its LEC schedule as the team vies for a spot in the LEC Tournament for the first time since 2018.
