Track & Field Wins LEC Weekly Awards

 Another week is in the books and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's track & field teams continue to haul in weekly awards from the Little East Conference (LEC) after the Tufts Sunshine Classic.

For the second straight week, freshman David Bennett has been named both the Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week, senior Andrew Swallow is your Field Athlete of the Week, and the 4x100 relay team of freshman Ollie Akinwunmi, freshman Xavier Manuel, senior Edward Lundy, and freshman Bryan Obidike is the Relay of the Week.

On the women's side, senior Jaiden Andrews, who is competing for the first time this season, is the Track Rookie of the Week.

DAVID BENNETT

From Newton, Mass., Bennett broke program records in both the 200 and 400-meter dash. Bennett's time of 21.69 in the 200 ranks 33rd in the NCAA, third in New England, and first in the LEC. His 400-meter dash time of 48.93 is 38th in the nation, fourth in New England, and is the top mark in the conference.

ANDREW SWALLOW

From Framingham, Mass., Swallow did a bit of everything in the throwing events. He first won the shot put with a throw of 15.51m. The mark ranks 21st in the country, second in New England, and first in the LEC, it is also tied fo fourth im program history. Swallow's discus distance of 44.80 also won the event at Tufts. That mark is fourth in New England, first in the LEC, and second all-time at UMass Dartmouth. Finally, his hammer throw of 47.76m was good for second place, and ranks 11th in New England, third in the LEC, and sixth all-time at UMassD.

4x100 RELAY

The 4x100 relay team of freshmen Ollie Akinwunmi and Xavier Manuel, senior Edward Lundy, and freshman Bryan Obidike sprinted to a third-place mark (43.35).

JAIDEN ANDREWS

Andrews captures her second outdoor Rookie of the Week award. The senior won the 100-meter dash at Tufts with a time of 12.93. Her preliminary time of 12.70 ranks fourth in the LEC and sixth all-time at UMass Dartmouth. Andrews finished second in the 100-meter hurdles as well, clocking 15.07.

Every Little East Conference program will come to Dartmouth on Saturday as the Corsairs host the LEC Championships.
