The Stonehill women’s lacrosse team lost to No. 5 Stony Brook by a score of 19-5 in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on May 8.
This game marked Stonehill’s first appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament after securing both the Northeast Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The Skyhawks ended their season with a record of 13-7, while Stony Brook improved to 18-2.
Nina Tremonte made 11 saves during the match, finishing her season with a total of 175 saves, which is third most in team history. Tremonte also played all 1200 minutes in net this season. Natalie Coutu contributed four assists in the game, bringing her season total to 38, ranking fifth for single-season assists at Stonehill. Taylor Green led scoring for Stonehill with her fifth hat trick of the year.
Sophia Gouveia and Emma Kail each added goals—Gouveia scoring her forty-eighth and Kail her fifth this season—while Grace Murphy recorded her fifteenth assist. Val Beigel matched her season-high by collecting three ground balls.
Stony Brook took control early, building a nine-goal lead by the end of the first quarter. Gouveia scored Stonehill’s first goal early in the second quarter off an assist from Coutu. In the third quarter, Green scored twice more with Coutu assisting both times, while Kail added another goal late in regulation from Murphy’s pass.
The Skyhawks conclude their historic campaign as conference champions and NCAA participants.
