The Stonehill women’s lacrosse team was defeated by Bryant University with a final score of 17-9 at the Conaty Indoor Athletic Center on Wednesday evening. This result brings Stonehill’s season record to 2-3, while Bryant improves to 3-2.
Grace Murphy and Taylor Green led the Skyhawks in scoring, each contributing two goals. Sophia Gouveia added a goal and an assist, along with three draw controls, three caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Kalliopi Maniatis also collected two ground balls for Stonehill. In goal, Nina Tremonte recorded 13 saves.
Stonehill began the game with an unassisted goal from Meaghan Fealy at the start of the first quarter. Natalie Coutu followed with a free-position goal before Bryant responded with consecutive scores to take a 3-2 lead. Emma Kail scored later in the quarter for Stonehill, but Bryant held a 5-3 advantage after the opening period.
In the second quarter, Coutu assisted Gouveia to reduce the deficit to one goal. However, Bryant regained momentum with back-to-back goals. The Skyhawks managed two late goals from Murphy and Green during player-up situations, trailing 10-7 at halftime.
Murphy scored her second goal in the third quarter, but Bryant extended their lead to 13-8 by its conclusion. Green netted her second goal late in the fourth quarter.
Stonehill will return home for its next game against New Hampshire on Wednesday, March 4 at 3 p.m., marking their first of five games broadcast on NESN Nation and available via NEC Front Row.
