The Stonehill College softball team split a doubleheader against Le Moyne on April 18, winning the first game 4-2 before falling 5-0 in the second contest.
The results reflect both teams’ competitive efforts as Stonehill celebrated Senior Day. The Skyhawks overcame an early deficit in game one, while Le Moyne responded strongly in the second matchup.
In the opener, junior right-hander Alexa Hospodar earned her third win of the season by pitching three innings of relief and striking out three batters. Senior Lauren Donovan started for Stonehill and recorded four strikeouts over four innings. Offensively, junior Harper Sullivan contributed an RBI single that tied the game in the third inning, while sophomore Taylor Schoonmaker went two-for-five with a stolen base and a run scored.
Stonehill trailed after Le Moyne took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but rallied as freshman Luka Bornhost stole second base and later scored on a groundout by freshman Juliana Alicea. Sullivan’s single brought home Schoonmaker to tie it at two runs apiece. Freshman Juli Murillo then drove home pinch-runner Kaileigh Mares for what became the winning run, with freshman Jenny Olson adding insurance moments later.
In game two, junior Alex Sciarretto struck out all three batters faced in the top of the first inning for Stonehill. However, Le Moyne scored twice in the third inning and added three more runs in the fifth to secure their victory.
Looking ahead, Stonehill will step away from conference play when they travel to Harvard for their next matchup scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 4 p.m.
