The Stonehill softball team lost to the University of Rhode Island in a non-conference single game on April 28. The match took place at Stonehill’s home field.
This game was important as it was one of the last home games for Stonehill this season. Both teams were looking to build momentum as their seasons near conclusion.
Freshman Juliana Alicea led Stonehill by going 1-for-2 with a double in the second inning. Fellow freshman Jenny Olsen also recorded a hit, finishing 1-for-2. The Rams established an early lead by taking advantage of defensive errors and scoring two runs in the first inning.
Stonehill threatened to rally in the fifth inning when Alicea doubled and advanced to third on Olsen’s single. After junior Caelan Beatty walked, the bases were loaded, but Stonehill could not bring any runners home. The University of Rhode Island added two more runs in the third, one in the fourth, and two more in the fifth before scoring four times in the sixth inning for their eighteenth win of the season.
Stonehill is scheduled to play again on April 29 against Bryant at 4 p.m.
