The Stonehill softball team lost to Central Connecticut State University, 6-3, in the final game of a three-game series on April 9.
This loss resulted in Stonehill dropping the overall series to CCSU. The outcome matters as it affects the team’s standing and momentum going into their next set of games.
Junior pitcher Harper Sullivan completed the game for Stonehill, recording two strikeouts and contributing offensively with a home run as part of her two hits. Freshman Juli Murillo also had two hits and scored a run from her spot at the top of the lineup. Sophomore Sarah Taylor collected two doubles among her hits, while junior Haleigh Reed went one-for-two with two sacrifice flies that drove in runs. Freshman Jenny Olson made a notable defensive play by throwing out a runner at third base to end an inning.
CCSU took an early lead by scoring twice in the first inning, but Stonehill answered quickly when Murillo singled and eventually scored on Reed’s sacrifice fly. The game remained close until CCSU added another run in the fifth inning; however, Sullivan responded with a solo home run to keep Stonehill within one run. In later innings, CCSU pulled ahead by scoring three more times. Despite another RBI from Reed late in the game, Stonehill was unable to catch up.
Looking ahead, Stonehill is scheduled to host Saint Francis for a three-game Northeast Conference series on April 11-12.
