The Stonehill softball team ended its participation in the Austin Peay Governors Classic with a 10-2 loss to the host team, Austin Peay, on Sunday afternoon in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Junior Harper Sullivan led Stonehill’s offense by going 3-for-3 and driving in a run. Sophomore Sarah Taylor contributed an RBI while going 1-for-2 from the middle of the lineup. Freshman Juli Murillo added a double and scored a run as part of her 1-for-3 performance.

Stonehill took an early lead in the top of the second inning after freshman Jade Sanders reached base on an infield single. Two batters later, Sullivan singled to bring home pinch runner Jenny Olson from second base.

Austin Peay responded with two runs in their half of the second inning to take a 2-1 advantage. The Skyhawks tied it up again in the third when Murillo hit a double and then scored on Taylor’s sacrifice fly.

Taylor held Austin Peay scoreless in the bottom of the third but gave up another run in the fourth. In the fifth inning, Austin Peay extended its lead by scoring five runs, making it 8-2.

Stonehill will play next against Connecticut on Tuesday, March 10, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m. in Storrs.
