The Stonehill men’s track and field team won the Skyhawk Invitational over Merrimack College, 101-75, on April 25.
The event marked a significant achievement for Stonehill, as athletes secured top finishes in multiple events. The team dedicated the 4×800 meter relay to alumnus Matt Shaw, who passed away from glioblastoma in July of 2025.
Junior Brendan Wilder finished first in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:49.85, narrowly missing his personal best by .33 seconds. Freshman Connor Magill and sophomore William O’Shea followed closely behind in second and third place. Sophomore Miles Burr took first place in both the 100 meters (10.85 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.69 seconds), while junior Brody McGrail was just one-tenth of a second behind Burr in the shorter race.
Other notable performances included junior Jon Dougherty winning the 400 meters with a time of 48.47 seconds, freshman Owen Partridge finishing third in that event at 49.16 seconds, and junior Matthew Malora edging out freshman Declan Smith for first place in the 800 meters by less than two-tenths of a second. Freshman Benjamin Tavares took third place in that race.
In field events, junior Joseph Chesney finished second in both shot put (15.57m) and discus (44.82m), while freshman James Scott won javelin with a mark of 54.39m.
Stonehill is scheduled to compete next at the NEC Championships on May 2 at Central Connecticut State University.
