The Stonehill College men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 4-1 victory over Merrimack College in the regular season finale on April 14 at the Charles Watt Tennis Courts. The Skyhawks improved their overall record to 8-9, while Merrimack fell to 3-14.
This win concludes Stonehill’s regular season on a strong note as they prepare for postseason play. The result reflects the team’s recent momentum and sets up their upcoming appearance in the Northeast Conference tournament.
Stonehill started by securing the doubles point, with Jacob Borch-Nielsen and Nicolas Arredondo winning at No. 1 doubles, and Guillermo Bennaton and Javier Gutierrez taking No. 2 doubles—both pairs earning decisive 6-1 victories. In singles action, Bennaton notched his second win of the day at No. 1 singles, defeating Tom Van Nooten in straight sets. Hector Cebrian added another point with a win at No. 2 singles.
After Borch-Nielsen lost a close match at No. 4 singles, Alessandro Munoz clinched the overall victory for Stonehill by winning his sixth consecutive singles match at No. 5 singles against Trey Pleasant.
Looking ahead, Stonehill (8-9, 2-3 NEC) will open Northeast Conference postseason play on Thursday against Wagner College in Mercer County, New Jersey.
