The Stonehill College men’s tennis team achieved a 4-0 win against Coppin State University on Sunday in Chestertown, Maryland. With this result, Stonehill’s record stands at 3-2 for the season, while Coppin State began its season with a loss.
Stonehill secured the doubles point after victories in the top two positions. The pair of junior Jacob Borch-Nielsen and sophomore Hector Cebrian recorded their seventh win of the year by defeating Aidan Thomas-Cogar and Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Freshman Benjamin Beaudry and sophomore Nicolas Arredondo contributed with a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles over Andre Dogbefu and Flavius Henderson II, marking their first victory as a team.
In singles play, Stonehill clinched the match by winning the first three contests. Sophomore Guillermo Bennaton opened with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rishi Jalota at No. 1 singles. Cebrian followed at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 result against Dogbefu. Borch-Nielsen added to his earlier doubles success by defeating Liam Murtaugh 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Stonehill is scheduled to host BYU next Tuesday at the Lakeville Athletic Club.
