The Stonehill men’s track and field team began its 2026 season with strong performances at the URI Invitational in Kingston, Rhode Island on January 17. Several athletes achieved personal bests and top finishes across multiple events.
Sophomore Miles Burr secured first place in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 22.61 seconds, three-tenths of a second ahead of Bryant’s Nathan Miller. Senior Patrick Morin placed fifth in the same event with a time of 23.12 seconds.
In the 400 meters, junior Jack Dougherty finished first with a time of 50.87 seconds, followed closely by freshman Owen Partridge at 50.98 seconds. Freshman Cam Begley took fifth place with a time of 52.31 seconds.
Freshmen Benjamin Tavares and Declan Smith earned first and second place in the 800 meters, posting times of 1:56.81 and 1:57.13 respectively.
Junior Brendan Wilder won the mile event with a time of 4:18.38, leading four Stonehill runners who finished in the top five. Sophomore Ethan Fadden (4:23.42), sophomore Connor Magill (4:25.92), and Colin Keane (4:26.87) placed third, fourth, and fifth.
Junior Dylan Brilliant set a personal best to win the 3000 meters at 8:32.51, while fellow junior Nicholas Davies was second at 8:41.41. Sophomore Shane Stanghellini (8:56.63) and junior Ian Bubar (9:01.21) also recorded personal bests in this event.
Stonehill’s relay team took second place in the 4×800 relay with a time of 8:13.41.
Freshman Kieran Miller improved his mark in the long jump to reach a distance of 6.81 meters, while junior Joe Chesney finished third in shot put with a throw measuring just over fifty feet.
Stonehill is scheduled to compete next at the MIT Invitational on Saturday, January 24.
