The Stonehill College baseball team defeated the University of Massachusetts 12-5 on April 22 at Earl Lorden Field. With this win, Stonehill improved its overall record to 15-20, while UMass fell to 12-21.

The game was significant for both teams as it marked a midweek non-conference contest, giving players opportunities to extend hitting streaks and gain momentum ahead of conference play. The Skyhawks’ consistent offense played a key role in their victory.

Junior Nathan Kearney recorded his fourth three-hit performance in five games, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Graduate student Sam Parks led the offense with four runs batted in, finishing the night with two hits, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch. Juniors Jamison Howland and freshman Kacin Robinson each contributed multi-hit games as well.

Junior John Bureau made an impact by hitting his first career home run for Stonehill and also scored twice. Junior Ryan LeClair extended his on-base streak to thirty games, while senior Michael Rickert reached base for the twenty-third consecutive game. On the mound, freshman Felix Stork made his first collegiate start and allowed three runs over one and one-third innings pitched. Sophomore Hunter Bell earned his first win of the season after pitching three scoreless innings in relief.

Stonehill took an early lead but briefly trailed before regaining control with RBI singles from Robinson and Jackson Enders followed by a bases-loaded walk from Parks in the third inning. The Skyhawks continued adding runs throughout the middle innings, highlighted by Parks’ two-run single in the fourth and Bureau’s solo home run in the ninth inning.

Looking ahead, Stonehill will return to Northeast Conference play this weekend when they host Coppin State at Lou Gorman Field starting Friday at 3 p.m.
