The Stonehill College baseball team earned its first win of the season by splitting a doubleheader against Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, Virginia, on Saturday. The Skyhawks lost the opening game 3–0 but responded with a decisive 16–5 victory in the second game, which ended after eight innings.

In the first game, VMI took an early lead when Grayson Fitzwater walked and Bradley Garner hit a two-run home run. Stonehill nearly scored in the second inning as Cam Morrison doubled and Nick Lundquist attempted to score but was thrown out at home plate. Both teams were held scoreless until VMI added another run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch from Jake Lanzer. Despite loading the bases in their half of the eighth, Stonehill could not capitalize and lost 3–0.

Cam Morrison led Stonehill offensively with two hits, including a double. Sam Parks recorded his first stolen base of the year and now has 41 for his collegiate career. Pitcher Ryan Douglas allowed only two runs over five innings and struck out six batters—his highest total since May 2024.

The second game saw Stonehill take an early lead as Ryan LeClair singled and Will Newton doubled before Morrison drove both runners home with a single. After VMI tied it up in their half of the first inning, Garner stole home for VMI’s brief lead before Will Christopher hit a two-run homer to put Stonehill back ahead. The teams traded leads until Stonehill broke open the game with 12 unanswered runs across four innings.

Lundquist contributed three RBIs on two singles while LeClair, Parks, Newton, Eisig Chin, and Christopher all delivered key hits during this stretch. Christopher finished with three hits—including two home runs—and four RBIs for his first career multi-homer game.

Noah Basgaard earned his first collegiate win by pitching two hitless innings in relief with five strikeouts. Hunter Bell started for Stonehill and struck out three batters over three innings.

Stonehill will finish its four-game series against VMI tomorrow afternoon.
