The Stonehill College baseball team lost its series finale to Wagner College, 8-4, on April 19 at Lou Gorman Field. With this result, the Skyhawks now have a record of 14-20 overall and 12-6 in conference play, while the Seahawks improved to 16-19 overall and 14-7 in league action.
This game was important for both teams as they continue their seasons within the Northeast Conference. The loss affects Stonehill’s position in the standings as they look ahead to future matchups.
Juniors Jamison Howland and Nathan Kearney each recorded their team-leading eleventh multi-hit games of the season. Howland went two-for-five with a home run, while Kearney had his second straight three-hit game, finishing three-for-five with two runs batted in. Senior Michael Rickert contributed by going two-for-four with a double and a run scored. Freshman Kacin Robinson tallied his eighth multi-hit game among rookies. Junior Ryan LeClair extended his on-base streak to twenty-nine games with a walk.
Wagner opened scoring in the second inning on a sacrifice fly from Jackson Blakley before Howland responded for Stonehill with a solo home run to right field. Both teams traded runs again in the third inning. After Wagner pulled ahead by scoring across several innings, Stonehill narrowed the gap but could not overcome it despite loading the bases late in the game.
Junior Dan Lang took the loss for Stonehill after allowing three runs over five innings pitched. Senior Jake Lanzer delivered one point two scoreless innings of relief work with three strikeouts.
Looking ahead, Stonehill will travel to Amherst for a non-conference matchup against UMass on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
