The Stonehill College baseball team lost its series finale to Le Moyne College, 9-2, according to a May 3 statement from the college. The game took place at Dick Rockwell Field in Syracuse, New York. With this result, Stonehill’s record moved to 19-23 overall and 15-9 in conference play, while Le Moyne improved to 16-23 overall and 16-11 in league action.
The game was notable for graduate student Sam Parks surpassing the milestone of 200 career hits. Parks finished the day going two-for-five with a run scored. Senior Michael Rickert also extended his on-base streak to thirty games and recorded his twelfth multi-hit performance of the season by going two-for-five with a double and a run scored.
Junior John Bureau increased his hitting streak to eight games during the contest. Fellow juniors Ryan LeClair and Nathan Kearney continued their on-base streaks at thirty-seven and thirty-four games respectively. On the mound, junior Dan Lang made his eighth start of the season while sophomore Alex Cook logged his team-leading eighteenth appearance.
Stonehill opened scoring in the first inning when Parks led off with his milestone hit before coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Kearney. However, Le Moyne quickly responded in their half of the inning to tie it up. After a scoreless second inning, Le Moyne took control with three runs in the third inning.
Although Stonehill narrowed the deficit in the fourth after an RBI single from Bureau scored Rickert, they were unable to catch up as Le Moyne added five more runs over later innings for a final score of nine-to-two.
Looking ahead, Stonehill will travel next weekend for a three-game series against LIU in Brookville, New York.
