The Stonehill College baseball team lost its series finale against Coppin State University, 10-5, on April 26 at Lou Gorman Field. With this result, the Skyhawks now have a record of 17-21 overall and 14-7 in conference play, while the Eagles improved to 8-29 overall and 8-16 in league action.
The game featured several notable performances for Stonehill. Junior Nathan Kearney extended his hitting streak to 11 games and his on-base streak to 30 games, finishing with one hit, a run scored, and two hit-by-pitches. Junior Ryan LeClair pushed his team-best on-base streak to 33 games. Senior Michael Rickert also extended his on-base streak to 26 games.
Junior Jamison Howland led the team with his fourteenth multi-hit game of the season by going two-for-five with a run scored and an RBI. Graduate student Sam Parks had two hits and scored twice while freshman Kacin Robinson drove in two runs with an extra-base hit. Freshman Armanis Romero went two-for-four with a home run—his second of the series—and an RBI. Junior Dan Lang started on the mound for Stonehill, allowing three runs over five innings.
Stonehill took an early lead in the second inning after Robinson’s double brought home two runs. Coppin State responded by tying the score before Stonehill regained the lead in the fifth inning through Romero’s solo home run and Rickert’s RBI single. However, Coppin State surged ahead during later innings including a three-run sixth inning that gave them their first lead of the day.
Despite cutting their deficit to one run late in the game after Parks scored off Howland’s single, Stonehill was unable to recover from Coppin State’s offensive rallies as they fell short by five runs at game’s end.
Stonehill is scheduled for its next matchup against Merrimack College in North Andover on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
