Stonehill College announced on April 25 that its baseball team secured a 13-3 win over Coppin State University at Lou Gorman Field. The game ended after seven innings due to the run rule, with Stonehill improving to a record of 17-20 overall and 14-6 in Northeast Conference play.

The result matters for both teams as Stonehill strengthens its position in conference standings while Coppin State drops to a record of 7-29 overall and 7-16 in league action.

According to the announcement, Stonehill matched its season-high with six stolen bases and was hit by five pitches during the game. Junior Nathan Kearney led the offense with his sixth three-hit performance in seven games, going three-for-four with one run scored and three runs batted in. Junior Ryan LeClair extended his on-base streak to thirty-two games, finishing one-for-three with two runs scored, two runs batted in, and a hit-by-pitch. John Bureau also contributed two runs batted in, while freshman Armanis Romero added two stolen bases along with scoring twice.

Graduate student Ryan Douglas earned his third win of the season by pitching all seven innings. He allowed three runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Stonehill took an early lead by scoring four runs in the first inning, including a two-run single from Bureau. Coppin State responded with one run in the second inning and two more in the third but could not overcome Stonehill’s offensive surge later in the game. In the sixth inning, Stonehill broke open the contest by scoring six runs through consecutive singles from LeClair, Kearney, and senior Michael Rickert as well as capitalizing on defensive errors.

The Skyhawks concluded their victory when LeClair was hit by a pitch with bases loaded before Kearney delivered a walk-off single up the middle for a final score of thirteen to three.

Looking ahead, Stonehill is scheduled to complete its weekend series against Coppin State at Lou Gorman Field tomorrow at noon.
