Freshman midfielder Sophia Gouveia of the Stonehill women’s lacrosse team was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season, according to an April 13 announcement from the conference office.
The repeated recognition highlights Gouveia’s consistent performance throughout her first collegiate season. She previously received the award on Feb. 23, March 2, March 9, March 23, and March 30.
Gouveia earned this week’s honor after scoring six goals and recording six draw controls in Stonehill’s two victories last week. In a win at Wagner on Wednesday, she contributed two goals, caused two turnovers, had two draw controls, and collected a ground ball. Against New Haven, she scored four times, added four draw controls, caused a turnover, and picked up another ground ball. Gouveia currently ranks third on the Skyhawks with 31 goals and 36 points while leading with 75 draw controls.
Senior Natalie Coutu was recognized as NEC Player of the Week after combining for eleven goals and five assists in both games. Coutu set a new career-high with eight points against Wagner before matching that output with five goals and three assists versus New Haven. She also contributed defensively with ground balls and caused turnovers. Coutu leads Stonehill in assists (21) and is second in both goals (32) and points (53).
Senior Grace Murphy received Prime Performer honors following her ten-goal week along with three assists across both victories. Murphy leads Stonehill with fifty-one goals and sixty-two points so far this season.
