Freshman infielder Armanis Romero of the Stonehill College baseball team was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Rookie of the Week, according to an April 28 announcement by the league. Junior Nathan Kearney also received recognition as a NEC Prime Performer for the third time this season.
The awards highlight recent strong performances by both players. Romero had a productive weekend against Coppin State, recording five hits in eleven at-bats, two home runs, three stolen bases, five runs scored, and eight runs batted in. His efforts included a career-high six RBI on Friday and his first collegiate grand slam.
Kearney contributed with a .625 batting average over sixteen at-bats during the week. He reached base multiple times through walks and being hit by pitches, driving in five runs and scoring seven himself. Kearney extended his hitting streak to eleven games and has now reached base safely in thirty consecutive games.
Stonehill’s record stands at seventeen wins and twenty-one losses overall, with fourteen wins in conference play. The team is scheduled to face Merrimack College today before returning to conference competition with a three-game series against Le Moyne starting Friday.
