Stonehill College’s women’s basketball team lost its final road game of the regular season to Mercyhurst, with a score of 68-55 at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday. The Skyhawks now have an overall record of 11-17 and are 7-10 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. Mercyhurst improved to 13-15 overall and holds a 13-4 record in the NEC.
Ella Pelletier led Stonehill with her third double-double of the season, recording 12 points and collecting 10 rebounds. She also contributed five assists during the game. Julia Webster was Stonehill’s top scorer, finishing with 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and adding five rebounds.
The Skyhawks started strong, leading early before trailing by one point at the end of the first quarter as Mercyhurst took a 9-8 advantage after ten minutes. In the second quarter, Mercyhurst increased its lead using three-point shots and went into halftime ahead 35-24. Pelletier scored ten points in the first half for Stonehill.
Entering the fourth quarter down by fourteen points, Stonehill responded with a seven-point run to reduce Mercyhurst’s lead to seven with just under eight minutes left. The Skyhawks narrowed it further to five points but were unable to close the gap as Mercyhurst finished with a decisive run.
Stonehill will conclude its regular season at home against Chicago State on Thursday, March 5 at 6 p.m., which will also serve as Senior Day for the team.
