Junior goalie Nina Tremonte of the Stonehill women’s lacrosse team was named Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, according to an April 27 announcement from the conference office.
This recognition highlights Tremonte’s performance in a recent game against Howard on April 25, where she tied her season-high with 13 saves and contributed three ground balls in a 13-5 victory. She previously earned the same honor on February 23. So far this season, Tremonte has an 11-6 record, with a total of 145 saves and an average of 11.06 goals allowed per game.
Freshman Sophia Gouveia also received attention in the weekly awards, earning her eighth selection as NEC Rookie of the Week. Gouveia was recognized after scoring three goals (a hat trick), securing six draw controls, collecting two ground balls, and causing one turnover against Howard. Her previous Rookie of the Week honors came on February 23, March 2, March 9, March 23, March 30, April 13 and April 20.
Gouveia is currently second on Stonehill’s roster with a total of 39 goals and third in overall points at 44. She leads her team with a total of eighty-four draw controls.
Stonehill recently secured a share of the NEC regular-season title and enters the upcoming NEC Tournament as the No. 2 seed. The tournament will be hosted by top-seeded Le Moyne on Thursday, April 30 and Saturday, May 2. The Skyhawks (11-6) are scheduled to play third-seeded LIU at 3 p.m., Thursday.
