First-year rider Cora Cotman of the Stonehill College equestrian team competed at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association National Championships, according to a May 4 announcement. The event was held at Tryon International and featured some of the top collegiate riders in the country.

Cotman’s participation in the prestigious Cacchione Cup continued a recent tradition for Stonehill, with a Skyhawk qualifying for this event for three consecutive years. Madeline Ahern represented Stonehill at each of the previous two national championships.

During Saturday’s competition on May 2, Cotman rode in both over fences and flat equitation phases. She achieved a score of 82.5 in over fences, tying her for tenth place among twenty-four competitors. After completing her flat phase, Cotman finished among the top thirteen riders overall.

This result is notable as it marks the highest finish by a Stonehill rider in this event since Emily Dolan placed seventh during the 2013 IHSA National Championships.

Stonehill Athletics encourages supporters to follow updates about their teams through social media channels such as Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
