The Stonehill College women’s tennis team was defeated by Sacred Heart University with a score of 5–2 on Saturday night at the Lakeville Athletic Club. This result leaves the Skyhawks winless so far this season, holding a record of 0–5, while Sacred Heart improved to 2–3.
Sophomore Arya Chabria stood out for Stonehill by winning both her doubles and singles matches. She partnered with Lilah Shallcross to secure a victory at No. 2 doubles, marking their second win as a pair this season. The duo overcame Malena del Olmo and Kiah James with a 6–2 result.
Despite this success in doubles, Sacred Heart won the other two doubles matches, defeating Stonehill’s teams of Julie Holte and Anneliese Beltran, as well as Madison Warren and Iliana deArmas. These wins allowed Sacred Heart to claim the overall doubles point.
In singles competition, Sacred Heart secured victories in the first four matches to clinch the team win. Stonehill earned its two points late in the contest. Chabria achieved a straight-sets win over Kailin Gochna at No. 5 singles (7–5, 6–4). Iliana deArmas followed with a three-set victory against Kiah James at No. 6 singles (6–7 [4], 6–4, 10–8).
Stonehill will next play Binghamton University on Sunday, February 15 at the Forecourt Tennis Courts in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
