Catholic Memorial Home leads Bristol County nursing homes in Q1 2026

For the first quarter of 2026, Catholic Memorial Home emerged as the largest nursing home in Bristol County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility had 300 total beds, which is 163 above the county’s average in the same period. It housed an average of 213.1 residents over those months.

Catholic Memorial Home received an overall CMS rating of 3 out of 5, slightly below the Massachusetts average of 3.1 for nursing homes.

For the quarter, Sacred Heart Nursing Home had the second most beds in the county with 217, while Sarah S Brayton Center ranked third at 183 beds.

As of Q1 2026, Catholic Memorial Home had incurred $94,419 in two fines and faced two penalties.

Altogether, Bristol County, Massachusetts, had seven non-profit nursing home facilities.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show that the population of older adults nationwide is rising while the number of children declines. From 2020 to 2024, Americans ages 65 and up grew by 13%, as those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has expanded greatly over the past 100 years, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study projects that nearly half of this age group—about 28 million people—could need long-term services and supports. The study also forecasts that over a third may ultimately require care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
